Welcome to Devon’s first cup of the Memories in Motion season! After 16 different moves being updated this season, we look forward to finding some new favorite Pokémon to battle with. We started looking back to some previous metas from years gone by that would play out much differently now between the new Pokémon being released, and all the move updates between then and now.
With that in mind, we allowed fire, grass, flying, ground, and normal types, and banned rock. At the first glance, there were an awful lot of rollout users and dragons at the top. So the most prominent rollout users had to go. Also Altaria was banned to allow some new Pokémon to shine.
We start looking at these metas before we know the changes for the new seasons moves. After we found those out, taking another look lead to some more bans, this time on electrics, some dual fairy types with STAB charm, and piloswine.
There were still a lot of fliers hovering around the top of the meta, so we introduced some airdrops with non-STAB rollout that were sure to make some fans happy. Say hello to Wailmer and Wailord! Sorry Muk and Goodra, you didn’t quite make the airdrop cut.
